Fatal Fire: Man Succumbs To Injuries In Western Mass Blaze

A man severely injured in a Saturday, March 4, fire in Hampden County has died of his injuries, the state Fire Marshal's Office announced on Monday. 

A shed fire at 901 Main Street in Agawam Saturday morning, March 4, sent two people to the hospital, officials said. One died of their injuries a day later.

The fire was reported around 6 a.m. at a detached shed at 901 Main St. in Agawam, officials said. Firefighters were quick to the scene and got the blaze under control soon after. Unfortunately, one man was critically injured, and another was less seriously hurt. 

Authorities did not release their names. The man who was critically injured died Sunday. 

A man injured in a Saturday morning fire has succumbed to his injuries, said Agawam Fire Chief Alan Sirois, Agawam Police Chief Eric Gillis, State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, and Hampden County District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni.

“This is a terrible tragedy for the family and a loss for our community,” said Agawam Fire Chief Alan Sirois in a news release. “On behalf of the Agawam Fire Department, I want to express our heartfelt condolences and support.”

Fire officials are still investigating what sparked the blaze.
